Design guidelines & construction standards
Water & sewer design guidelines
Santa Ana’s Water & Sewer Design Guidelines provide developers, engineers, and contractors with technical specifications, standard drawings, and construction standards for the design and installation of public water and sewer infrastructure.
These resources support the consistent, high-quality development of the City’s utility systems and apply to both new projects and modifications to existing systems. All water and sewer improvements must be designed and constructed in accordance with:
- These Water & Sewer Design Guidelines
- The City of Santa Ana Standard Plans and Specifications
- The 2021 edition of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook)
Water construction standards
The Water Construction Standards offer detailed guidance on materials, installation methods, testing, and placement of all components of the City’s public water system. These standards ensure uniformity in the construction of pipelines, valves, fire hydrants, service laterals, meters, and related appurtenances. They also outline required procedures for pressure testing, disinfection, and final commissioning.
