Tech at SAPL

Checkout available technologies at several library locations:

  • HP color printers
    • Available at each library location.
    • Accepts both cash and card payments.
    • Able to print on one or both sides and in color (55 cents) or black and white (20 cents).
    • Patrons can print on site or through mobile options.
  •  Self-service scanner
    • Available at each library location.
    • Free to use.
    • Easy-to-use software.
    • Convert scanned images to PDF, searchable PDF, and JPEG file formats.
    • Capture full pages of text without distortion.
    • Scan up to 100 pages into one file.
    • Password protect any scanned document.
    • Scan pages up to 11" x 17"
    • Save files to email or USB.
    • Send to on site HP color printers to print.
  • Laptop dispensing kiosks
    • Available at each library location.
    • Free to use for library card holders. eLibrary card users must apply for a regular library card to use.
    • Usage limited to library premises only. Checkout for home use is unavailable.
    • Library cardholders may borrow one laptop at a time for 1 hour of use. If there is no one waiting to use the laptop, patrons can use it longer.
    • Software suite such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Google Chrome, and Firefox is available on all laptops.
  • Adaptive Technology PC Station
    • Available at main and newhope location.
    • Free to use.
    • Features several accessories for ease of use:
      • Traditional mouse
      • Large Key font keyboard
      • Trackball mouse
      • USB clicker
      • Trackpad (with gesture support)
      • TrackerPro 2 (hands-free mouse control)
    • Contains a ClearView C display that is both a computer monitor and a digital video magnifier.
    • Has the Kurzweil 1000 and 3000 suite installed and available for use.
      • Kurzweil 1000 can read text in a variety of natural-sounding voices that can be modified based on user preference.
      • Kurzweil 1000 has access to these Internet repositories:
        • Bookshare.org
        • NLS Web Braille
        • AccessWorld
        • Talking Newspaper Association of the United Kingdom
        • NFB Publications
        • Wikipedia (in multiple languages)
      • Kurzweil 3000 allow users to import PDFs, images, and Word docs and offer improved readability with OpenDyslexic font and text magnification.
      • Kurzweil 3000 has access to American Heritage dictionaries (Fifth Edition, Children’s, and College Writer’s Dictionary)
