Dear Santaneros,

Our community’s strength never wavers, and it makes me proud to see you stand in solidarity for and with each other. You continue to do the hard work — supporting one another through mutual aid, fundraising, helping vendors stay safe, and lending a hand with groceries, errands, and rides. Your actions show what it truly means to be Santaneros. Please keep showing up for each other and creating safe spaces. I stand with you and will continue sharing resources and working alongside community leaders to support our people.

This newsletter includes resources for anyone impacted by the recent ICE raids — from legal aid to mutual aid and online help. For families with kids, our Santa Ana Public Library offers online tutoring, homework help, and the Zip Books program for free book delivery.

While we care for each other, please care for yourselves too. Free mental health services — virtual or in-person — are available for all Santa Ana residents, adults and youth alike. You deserve joy and peace.

Come connect and heal in our community gardens. Events like the Marigold Celebration, Water-Saving Workshops, and ReWild with Seed Bombs are great ways to gather, grow, and find peace together.

I’m also excited to share some good news — our new Delhi Library Branch is now open! It’s more than a library; inside, you’ll find a dedicated Knowledge Bar where visitors can get help with technology and information needs. Plus, the new outdoor patio offers play features and extra space for library programs, events, and community activities — making it a vibrant place for everyone to connect and learn. Be sure to get your Santa Ana Library card, and while you’re at it, borrow a pass and an Adventure Backpack to explore over 200 California State Parks for free.

We also had our first Central City Neighborhood Clean-Up Day — thank you to our Central City residents who made this event a great success and an opportunity for neighbors to declutter and build community. If you’d like to bring a clean-up to your neighborhood, please reach out — my office is happy to help you get started.

Thank you to everyone in Santa Ana for showing up for each other and your neighborhoods. From sharing resources and helping community members to hosting clean-ups and leading neighborhood initiatives, you are what makes our city strong and resilient.

Stay safe, keep looking out for one another, and know that I stand with you always.

In Solidarity,

Mayor Pro Tem Vazquez

Crypress Fire Station

Cypress Fire Station

THANK YOU to the Pacific Park residents who came to speak out in support of the Cypress Fire Station at the Santa Ana City Council’s budget meeting! Because of your voice, you all were able to push for this. I’m so glad we’re finally excavating this building that’s been abandoned for nine years and bringing it back as an active space for our community. I look forward to seeing this project move forward and sharing updates with you all soon.

Press Conference: ICE OUT!

Orange County Educators for Justice

I am proud to have witnessed our community come together in unity and solidarity to protect our immigrant families. In recent months, ICE has created fear in our neighborhoods — in our own homes. But on June 10, I stood alongside many of my colleagues, the OC Rapid Response Network, and neighboring cities like Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, and Tustin to say: enough is enough!

We will not stand by silently. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of you in the streets, and I encourage you to keep raising your voices against injustices—especially when ICE targets our communities. I stand with residents, advocates, and leaders from Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Tustin, Costa Mesa, and beyond who are calling for dignity, compassion, and protection for all.

I do not support nor condone ICE operating in our state — especially not in our city. We have every right to speak out during times of injustice, and together, as Santaneros, we have the power to protect one another and build a city where everyone feels safe.

To my immigrant families who are living in fear: we see you. We stand with you. You are not alone. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office. We are here to help, support, and connect you with trusted resources and legal guidance.

El pueblo unido jamás será vencido.

I love the idea of creating a sanctuary — we need more spaces like this in our city. Our children and families deserve to feel safe and have places where they can be free, play, and enjoy themselves. Every child deserves to be safe in parks and areas of play, away from alleys and busy streets.

Movies In The Park: Jerome Park

Movies in the Park at Jerome Park

I am grateful that, during these challenging times, we can still have safe spaces where our community can come together, enjoy one another’s company, and escape the summer heat. Jerome Park recently hosted a wonderful Movies in the Park night, featuring “Inside Out 2.”

Parks & Recreation brought out their awesome RecreAuto mobile, Orange County Soccer Club joined us, and Project Kinship showed up for our youth with Inside Out-themed goodies, and we had a mini bubble pool. Many more organizations supported to make this an exciting Movies in the Park.

My team and I were there making sure families had access to resources on immigrant rights, safe spaces, community assistance, educational resources and more — because everyone deserves to feel safe and supported. We want everyone to know: you are not alone. If you ever need help or want to learn more about your rights and local resources, please reach out to my office — we’re here for you.

Thank you to everyone who came out to make this such a special night!
