Housing Quality Standards Inspections

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to ensure low-income families have access to housing that is decent, safe, and sanitary at an affordable cost. To achieve this objective, program regulations establish Housing Quality Standards (HQS), which all assisted units must satisfy prior to the commencement of rental assistance and on an annual basis throughout the duration of the assisted tenancy. HQS defines what constitutes standard housing and sets forth the minimum health and safety requirements necessary to protect program participants.
