Section 8 is a housing assistance program that is financed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the City of Santa Ana to provide rent subsidies in the form of housing assistance payments to private landlords on behalf of extremely low, very low-income individuals/families, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. Eligible families receive a housing voucher to find housing. Depending on your household income, your voucher outlines the amount of rent subsidy that you receive on a monthly basis. We'll pay that portion of your rent and you'll be responsible for the rest.
Am I eligible?
We determine eligibility based on the total annual gross income and family size. Housing choice vouchers are limited to US citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. In general, the family's income may not exceed 50% of the median income for the county or metropolitan area in which the family chooses to live. Find our income limits for your family size here.
