Wendy Duong’s utility box design was inspired by an email titled “Community: AMCAL Multi-Housing Completes 69 New Affordable Apartments in Partnership with City of Santa Ana,” about Santa Ana’s development of new affordable housing apartments for families. The email prompted Duong to think about “how Santa Ana helps create opportunities for growth for its residents,” and to represent the apartments as plants growing out of the dry, cracked ground.
