At 9 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the Orange County Board of Supervisors will consider a contract with the Mental Health Association of Orange County to provide homeless services at 2416 S. Main St. The City of Santa Ana is NOT in support and OPPOSES the approval of this contract due to the negative public health and safety impacts this operation has had on residents and businesses. The City’s Homeless Services staff believe these funds could be better spent on transportation to shelters, funding for rehabilitation beds and other vital services.

The City of Santa Ana already operates a 200-bed shelter, funds a homeless outreach team, and leads Orange County in the development of permanent supportive housing for formerly unhoused individuals as well as affordable housing. The County of Orange additionally operates its homeless shelter in Santa Ana. Mayor Valerie Amezcua sent a letter of opposition to the Board of Supervisors.

The City of Santa Ana will be at the Board of Supervisors meeting to voice our opposition to this contract. Come out and support your City leaders as we oppose this funding of MHA. The Board meets at 400 W. Civic Center Drive, Santa Ana (Board Hearing Room, First Floor.)

To attend the meeting, park at 690 W. Civic Center Drive (Superblock) and get free parking validation. We are providing a free ride to the meeting, departing at 8 a.m. November 28 from Delhi Center, 505 E. Central Ave.

If you can’t attend, you can provide comments by email at response@ocgov.com. The MHA contract is agenda item #12.
