The City of Santa Ana held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Centennial Park Improvements Project on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Mayor Valerie Amezcua, Councilmember David Penaloza and Councilmember Thai Viet Phan spoke and joined in the ceremonial groundbreaking. Thank you to the community members who gathered to celebrate the new amenities and upgraded recreational spaces that are coming soon.Aerial view of several acres of land covered in dirt and under construction next to a lake and a sports field.

The project features Santa Ana’s first dedicated dog park, giving families and their pets a safe place to socialize and exercise. The park’s lakes have also undergone a major restoration to improve water circulation and habitat health.

The $13.4 million in upgrades also include new synthetic turf on sports fields, new walking trails, picnic areas, open green space, access to the Santa Ana River Trail, a lakeside event area, security cameras, remodeled restrooms, and new lighting for the sports fields, skate park and soccer complex. A modern Santa Ana Police Department simulation training center is also being added to ensure our police officers have the training they need to serve and protect our community.

The lake renovation is already complete, and full project completion is anticipated in 2026, with the dog park expected to be finished in March.
