Climate Action Plan Vision

By using our resources wisely, we not only improve the environment but improve the quality of life for our community. The City is developing a Climate Action Plan that will provide a framework for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and managing our natural resources. The California Public Utilities Commission has made funding available to those cities with an energy efficiency partnership with Southern California Edison (SCE). Santa Ana has had a partnership with SCE since 2008. The funding covers the Baseline Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and the Energy Chapter of the Climate Action Plan. The funding for the remainder of the components to complete the Climate Action Plan is the responsibility of the City.

Temporary Suspension of On-Line Bill Pay Fee

On February 21st the Santa Ana City Council approved the suspension of the City's credit card and electronic funds transaction fee of $3.54 for a period of six months and will take effect on March 01, 2012. The motivation for suspending the fee is to encourage on-line payment; which in turn, is expected to reduce the number of paper checks processed by staff. As a convenience to residents and applicants, the Treasury Division of the City of Santa Ana is also moving towards providing the ability to apply and pay for Business Licenses, Dog Licenses, Parking Citations, and other municipal payments on-line.

No Smoking Ordinance Takes Effect March 7th, 2012

The City of Santa Ana is proud to announce a cleaner, healthier outdoor environment with a new ordinance prohibiting smoking in City parks, including bike trails and paseos, recreation and playground areas, City recreation facilities, the Eddie West Field at the Santa Ana Stadium, and the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park.

This decision addresses the numerous health hazards associated with secondhand tobacco smoke exposure, such as cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, and asthma. By improving the air quality in public spaces, the ordinance demonstrates the City’s commitment to protect Santa Ana residents and visitors.

The ordinance will go into effect on March 7, 2012. Citations for violations of the ordinance will begin on July 1, 2012 following the completion of a public education program and the posting of signs in designated areas.
