How do I get a dog license?

The Santa Ana Tax and License section handles requests for Dog Licenses and customer inquiries. They can be reached at (714) 647-5257 or via email at dog@santa-ana.org. The Santa Ana Tax and License office is located at Santa Ana City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza, First Floor City Hall Annex, Room 1100. Parking is available in the Civic Center Plaza, off Santa Ana Blvd. between Ross Street and Flower Street. There is parking fee per each half-hour. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every other Friday.

To obtain a dog license, the Dog License Application must be completed and submitted with a Rabies Vaccination Certificate issued from a licensed veterinarian showing vaccination is valid for the entire licensing period. Payment in full (including applicable penalties) is required prior to the issuance of a Dog License Certificate.

Notes

  • A Rabies Vaccination Certificate issued from a licensed veterinarian showing vaccination that will be valid for the entire licensing period is required.
  • To receive a discount rate for a spayed or neutered dog, you must enclose a copy of the sterility certificate or a signed statement of sterility from a licensed veterinarian.
  • To receive the Senior Citizen Discount rate, you must be 65 years of age or older (proof of age is required). The animal must be spayed/neutered.
  • Your Dog License and rabies vaccination should be obtained within fifteen (15) days after your dog reaches the age of four (4) months or after moving into the City of Santa Ana. Otherwise a LATE FEE will be assessed.
  • Exemptions available for seeing eye, signal, service and medical alert dogs (proof required)
