Meals on Wheels Program at Santa Ana Senior Center and Southwest Senior Center
- Meals on Wheel Program @ Santa Ana Senior Center and Southwest Senior Center
In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, all Senior Centers are closed except for the Meals on Wheels Program offering two ways for seniors to get their meals. The implementation of the programs is to protect the health and safety of all participants while taking all necessary and deliberative steps to assure continuity and avoid the disruption of nutritional services.
Take Home Meals (Frozen) Program
This program is offered at the Santa Ana Senior Center 424 W. 3rd St and Southwest Senior Center 2201 W. McFadden Ave on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Seniors must register for the service in order to receive five frozen meals each week. Pre-registered participants will pick up meals and included are instructions on how the participant may safely transport, store, and consume the meals. Priority for distribution of meals will go to registered participants. Those seniors not registered can do so onsite.
Emergency Shelf Stable Meals
In addition to the Take Home Frozen Meals Program, this program will provide Emergency Meals to participants in response to social distancing for COVID-19. Seniors must register for the service in order to receive emergency meals each week. Pre-registered participants will pick up meals and included are instructions on how the participant may safely transport, store, and consume the meals. The shelf life of the Emergency Meal is on the front label. The Emergency Meals distribution continues, as funding allows.
- Food Bank Commodities Program @ Santa Ana Senior Center
The Food Bank Commodities Program provides monthly food assistance specially targeted at low-income seniors. Seniors must register for the service in order to receive a bag of non-perishable food items distributed on the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of the month from 8:00am to 10:30am.
- Senior Grocery Shopping
Local stores in Santa Ana that include Northgate Gonzalez Market, Mother’s Market, Whole Foods, Dollar General, Target (Wednesdays) and Walmart (Tuesdays) provide shopping hours exclusive for seniors.
- Senior Support Services
Seniors that need additional support can call 2-1-1 and for In-Home Supportive Services (714) 825-3000.
- Great Plates Delivered - Home Meals for Seniors
On April 24, 2020, Governor Newsom announced the launch of a first-in-the nation “Great Plates Delivered” program, a meal delivery for California’s older adults. Great Plates Delivered by Meals on Wheels Flyer
