The City of Santa Ana has 41 restrooms located at various parks throughout the city. Restroom cleaning happens two times per day between the hours of 10:00 pm and 2:00 am and 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Once the contractor cleans, the restroom remains locked until a Park Services Inspector arrives to open the restrooms and verify proper cleaning. If the contractor does not clean the facility according to the contract, the company receives a Failure to Perform (FTP) notice and a deduction for the cost of service and a penalty fee is applied. This does not typically happen as contractors provide good service. The challenge in keeping park restrooms clean is misuse and vandalism occurring after inspections. Once the inspector opens the restroom to the public and misuse occurs the restroom is not address until the second cleaning and inspection.
Another challenge is the majority of the restroom in our parks are past their useful life and replacement is necessary. The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency is systematically replacing restrooms, as funding is available. The next restrooms slated for replacement are Campesino, Memorial, & Madison Parks.
