Councilmember Roman Reyna

Roman Reyna was elected to the Santa Ana City Council on November 6, 2018. Born and raised in Santa Ana, Roman has devoted his life to the betterment of the community through his leadership and advocacy efforts to enhance the opportunities for the City’s youth. In addition to having served as a Santa Ana Unified School District Board Member, Roman Reyna brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a community and civic leader to the City Council who served as a City Councilmember from 2012-2016.

Mr. Reyna’s diverse professional experience is the result of his many years of community service and leadership. He served as Commissioner of the Commissioner of Housing and Redevelopment for the City of Santa Ana, and Chairman for the Federal Empowerment and Federal Empowerment Zone-Budget & Task Force. He is also a volunteer assistant at Monte Vista Elementary School, offering support with both community and parent outreach. Additionally, he has volunteered for a number of City sponsored youth programs, sports teams, mentoring and camping programs. Roman also runs the Santa Ana Youth & Government program as a volunteer for the YMCA and hosts a youth leadership conference every year where more than 100 students participate. During his tenure with the City of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Department, he hosted numerous trips to Catalina Island where he mentored youth on developing team building skills and exposing them to outdoor adventure.

Mr. Reyna has provided nearly a decade of service to a wide array of non-profit organizations including the Department Juvenile Justice Weed & Seed Program (Member, Past Chairman); Neighborhood Housing Services of Orange County (Board Member); Kid Works (Advisory Board Member); Templo Calvario Community Development Corporation (Board Member, Former Vice-Chairman); Casa Bonita Neighborhood Association (Founder, Past President); Communication Linkage Forum (Past Vice-Chairman); American G.I. Forum (Past Member); American Cancer Society - Santa Ana Relay for Life (Past Co-Chairman) and Padres Unidos (Board Member).

Mr. Reyna is a well-known community spokesperson and has attended numerous charitable events as a keynote speaker. He was a key presenter at the United Way Multi-Ethnic Leadership Initiative in 2003 – 2007 and Santa Ana Civic Leadership Initiative in 2004-2008. He also was a guest Speaker at Youth Expo for the City of Santa Ana on numerous occasions.
