Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros was founded by author Pat Mora in 1997 as a celebration of families, literacy, and bilingualism. Mora based the celebration on Children's Day, a holiday that was created in 1925 following the World Conference For the Well-being of Children held in Geneva, Switzerland. Children's Day is typically celebrated throughout Latin America on April 30th, and its popularity has grown in the U.S. over the past decade.
