How can Your Neighborhood Block be Improved to Win NBBC?

Date: April, 02 2021 Category: Notification, Public Works

The “Neighboorhood Block Beautification Contest” (NBBC) is all about beautifying our community and that means making improvements. To qualify, you will need to send “before” and “after” pictures, demonstrating the improvements made by each participating property on your block since the launch of our contest. The before and after pictures need to be taken after March 1, 2021 and submitted by May 21, 2021. Enter now at

What will I win? Each winning block will receive two elegantly designed, Santa Ana signs.  One sign will be installed at each end of the block, commemorating the neighborhood block’s community pride. In addition, each participating property of a winning block will receive one $100 gift card.  A special unveiling of the signs and presentation of gift certificates will be made by the City Councilmember, City Manager and Executive Director of Public Works.

What is a neighborhood block? For the purposes of this contest, a neighborhood block is defined as a section of homes on both sides of a street that is intersected by a street at each end.

The NBBC is open to all residents. In order to qualify, 50% of the homes and/or multifamily complexes on a block must participate. No more than three blocks per Ward will be chosen. The NBBC will only consider street facing landscaping and enhancements that increase the property’s curb appeal. Property enhancements must be for community beautification and include the parkway, front yard, fencing and exterior home. Condition of streets and sidewalk will not affect judging. The contest timeline is as follows:

  • May 21, 2021 – Entry deadline. (Visit for the entry form.
  • May 21-31, 2021 – Review of entries.
  • June 1-7, 2021 - Judging
