Vaccination Rate Rising
After months of starting off my newsletter with often negative updates about the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m going to focus my message in this edition of COSAS on some positive stories. Orange County this week reached 70% vaccination among adults, and Santa Ana is not far behind. Still, with new virus variants spreading, it’s important that we get as many people vaccinated in our community as possible. The City has been hosting vaccine clinics to get those numbers up. There are many free and easy options to get vaccinated in Santa Ana!

The State of California has extended residential eviction protections through Sept. 30, 2021. By Sept. 30, 2021, tenants must pay at least 25% of the rent due during the period of Sept. 1, 2020, through Sept. 30, 2021.
The City of Santa Ana is now paying 100% of the rental arrears/past-due rent owed since April 1, 2020, for low-income families impacted by COVID-19. Apply for payment of 100% of your rental arrears / past-due rent owed since April 1, 2020. As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend, I’d like to remind our community members to practice safety when using fireworks. The possession and/or use of illegal fireworks is a crime that may have violators subject to a $1,000 fine and up to one year in jail. Only fireworks that have the “Safe and Sane” seal are permitted to be used in Santa Ana. We hope you have a safe and dazzling 4th of July weekend!
To report possession or use of illegal fireworks, please call 714.245.8771 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

This 4th of July, you can help out a local non-profit while also keeping our community safe by buying only legal fireworks. Non-profit organizations across Santa Ana have set up booths to sell “Safe and Sane” fireworks. A large chunk of their annual funding comes from these sales. Check out this interactive map where you can find the closest booth near you and stock up on all of your celebration needs.
