Santa Ana and Garden Grove Fixed Guideway Project
The cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove are embarking on a major transit investment to benefit their communities. Input from area residents, businesses and stakeholders is key to ensuring the best routes and technologies are selected for this major infrastructure program. The following is information about this effort and how you can become involved.
Santa Ana is the fourth-most densely populated city in the U.S. The Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC) serves more than 500,000 rail trips each year and is one of the busiest train stations along the Los Angeles to San Diego rail line, yet there is no frequent, reliable transit system to transport people between SARTC and key destinations in the city, such as downtown Santa Ana and the civic center which houses city, county, state and federal government offices and courthouses.
In anticipation of a population growth of 10% over the next 25 years, and recognizing that many residents are dependent on public transportation, it is important for the City of Santa Ana to further develop our transportation infrastructure and provide more options for public transportation and interconnectivity between the Santa Ana Civic Center and other frequented destinations nearby.
Proposed Project
The cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove, in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), are proposing to build a transportation system that would provide a convenient connection between Metrolink commuter rail service at SARTC and key activity and employment centers in the cities. It is envisioned that the system will be an environmentally friendly transportation solution that matches the character of the community and addressing the travel needs of the people that live, work, visit, and go to school in the area.
