For New Construction Inspections call:    (714) 667-2738

An automated response will explain the process and record your message. Please provide the following information:

  • Permit number
  • Complete address, including suite numbers
  • Type of inspection: Structural, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical
  • Inspection Code (located on your inspection card)
    Example: 20 = Electrical Final
  • The date you would like the inspection
  • Any special instructions for the inspector (optional)

When will the Inspector arrive?

If you want your inspection for tomorrow - you must phone in your request before 3:00 p.m. today!  Requests made after 3:00 p.m. will be scheduled for inspection two business days from the day you request it.

Field inspections normally occur after 8:30 a.m. and before 4:00 p.m.

NOTE: To confirm that your inspection is scheduled or to cancel an inspection, call 667-2781 before 8:30 a.m. on the day for which the inspection is scheduled.

What do I need to have ready?

Everything necessary to perform an inspection is required to be provided at the site by the permit owner. The inspector generally will have the most basic tools for inspections, such as flashlight, tape measure, and level.

To avoid any unnecessary delays with your project, it is vital to have necessary items on site at the time of the inspection. Your Inspector may raise job-specific issues not covered below.

Items Required
  Explanation
1.
Have all approved plans on-site for inspection If the inspector arrives at your job-site and the approved plans are not able to be located, the inspector will write a correction to "have approved plans on-site for inspection." This will end the inspection.
2.
Access to the area of inspection This may require keys, gate codes, combinations to locks, and in some cases, an escort.
3.
Job card The inspector may not approve the requested inspection until other necessary inspections have been signed off. The job card shows all previously completed inspections.
4.
50 foot or longer tape measure Distance of vents, lumber spans, equipment locations, etc. may need to be verified.
5.
Ladder This may be needed for roofing inspections, attic access, access to roof mounted equipment, etc.
6.
Installation
instructions
Installation instructions of equipment being installed must be provided to the inspector to verify manufacturer's requirements for such items as wall heaters, water heaters, furnaces, most electrical equipment, etc.
7.
Material Some inspections, such as re-roof sheathing, require that the materials be on-site for the inspection. Roofing materials must be Inspected prior to installation!
8.
Test gauges Certain plumbing inspections require that the installation is under pressure test.
