Planning and Building Agency

The Building Safety Division includes the Permit Counter, Plan Check, and Building Inspections. This division is responsible for compliance with the California Building Standards Code for all new construction, tenant improvements, conversions and repairs to buildings and other structures. It maintains construction records for all buildings in the City.

Permit Counter

The Permit Counter provides basic information about obtaining necessary permits. Its staff answers questions, provides informational handouts, issues permits and accepts plans for plan check.

Plan Check

The Plan Check Section reviews plans for compliance with State building codes, and is responsible for enforcing regulations for disabled access, energy conservation, flood plain management, fire and life safety, structural systems, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical ventilation systems.

Building Inspections

The Building Inspections Section provides inspections of new construction, conversions, manitenance, and repair of buildings. This section is responsible for the enforcement of building, plumbing, heating and electrical codes and handicapped requirements.
