Film Permit Types of Permits and Fees
You may access more information and PDF applications on this site.
For Private Property Filming
There is NO PERMIT FEE – you will have to work out an agreement with the property owners.
The only fee you may have to pay is if a Police Officer is required on site – A Police Officer is needed if there is use of: simulated weapons, simulated blood, simulated explosions or pyrotechnics, police officer uniform or vehicle, and amplified sound. If a Police Officer is needed, but is not requested through this process, your production will be held responsible for any unlawful occurrences that result from the production.
You will need to fill out a PRIVATE PROPERTY FILMING NOTICE form even though there is no fee for this filming (for Santa Ana filming record keeping).
When the form is completed and turned in to us, we will review it to make sure there is no need for an officer on site. If there is: there will be a POLICE OFFICER FEE of $82.94 per hour/man (4 hours minimum).
**Business licenses MUST be acquired for filming on private property. Students and City of Santa Ana advertisements (pending City Manager approval) are exempt.
For Public Property Filming
There is a $394.00/day PERMIT FEE, plus a $500 CLEANING DEPOSIT (refunded upon completion of filming, pending film location is left clean and undamaged), if there is violence, simulated weapons, police uniforms or police vehicles in the filming, additional charge for a POLICE OFFICER FEE of $82.94 per hour/man (4 hour minimum) will be added.
For street closures, there is a $143.08 FLAT PERMIT FEE (to be determined by Santa Ana Police Department upon review of your application)
When metered parking stalls are to be affected by the street closure/event there will be a $6.00 per day/meter CLOSURE FEE + $5.00/meter POSTING FEE charged. If you wish to not pay this fee, you have the option of paying for the meter at its regular, posted operating costs.
