A Trail of Beauty
Yet again they make it new. Every year, the Madison Park Neighborhood Association goes out and plants trees and wall covering ivy, removes graffiti, and picks up litter. 2011 is no different. On Saturday, June 4, 2011, 26 adults, teens, and children from the Madison Park Neighborhood came out to plant beautiful Torrey Pine trees. They selected these trees because they are native to this area and help conserve water. They focused their volunteer work on beautifying the bike trail that runs through their neighborhood. Known as the Pacific Electric Bike Trail, which was developed years ago on Maple Street on the abandoned old red car Pacific Electric train track, folks came out in the morning to do some important community building work.

Freddie Jimenez and Marco Balleza from the Recreation Division helped the neighborhood coordinate this “rebuild the trail day” with neighborhood leaders. One of those leaders, resident Jose Rea, announced to the volunteers that as a reward they had raised money to treat everyone for a hot dog lunch at Madison Park after full morning of hard and rewarding work.
Park tree experts Joe Vargas and Bernie Rodriguez trained the volunteers how to properly plant these beautiful trees that were donated by Shadetree Nursery.
