Santiago Park Mural Painting Day and Celebration
January 5 , 2011

On Saturday, January 15, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Santa Ana teen and adult volunteers will help place the final brush strokes on a community mural at the Santiago Park Main Street underpass, which is accessible from the trail that connects the park to the Discovery Science Center. The day will culminate with a dedication ceremony and celebration from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the site of the mural.

Santa Ana teens and members of the community will help paint the mural under the direction of noted muralist Roberto Del Hoyo, who will develop the Santiago Park Mural as well as a second mural at Memorial Park on February 26, 2011. Mr. Del Hoyo, a graduate from the prestigious Otis College of Art and Design involves the community surrounding each mural site to seek input on design concepts and then directs volunteers to complete the final painting of each mural, creating a true Santa Ana public art event.

The Santiago Park mural wonderfully blends the natural beauty of the organic shapes found in the park's native plants with geometric patterns depicting the advancement of man in science and architecture that is demonstrated by the Discovery Science Center. The mural's location in the underpass seamlessly transitions between the calm and serenity of Santiago Park to the angles and movement of the Discovery Science Center.

Volunteers are welcome to participate on Saturday, January 15 to be a part of creating this visual jewel in the community. Santiago Park is located at 2535 North Main Street, Santa ana, CA 92705.
