Santa Ana Firefighters Save Toddler's Life
June 15, 2011
On Monday, June 13 firefighters/paramedics Miguel Maldonado, Brian Chamberlain, and Bryan Bear from Station 1 responded to an emergency call regarding a four year-old child who had stopped breathing. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics found the lifeless body of the toddler who had choked on a cherry and was not responsive to their efforts to revive him. Prior efforts by the child’s parents failed to revive him as well. While en-route to St. Joseph Hospital, Paramedic Maldonado utilized a laryngoscope to locate the cherry in the child’s throat and he was able to dislodge it and restore the child’s breathing. At the emergency room the child was fully resuscitated and is now expected to make a complete recovery. The toddler’s parents arrived at the hospital to find their four year-old child breathing normally and in good health. These three heroic firefighters/paramedics are commended for saving this young boy’s life through their quick action.
