The Santa Ana Fire Department has a number of Type 1 fire engines prepared to respond to Wildland fire requests. All members of the fire department are trained on a regular basis in Wildland firefighting. Santa Ana Firefighters are trained in the state of the art Wildland firefighting techniques. Engine companies respond regularly to out of county mutual aid strike teams. A Strike teams consist of five Type 1 firefighting engines and a chief officer. Santa Ana has responded to some of the major wildfires across the state. Firestorm 93' The Laguna Beach Fires and The Los Angeles County Malibu Fires. Santa Ana is part of a multi-agency coordination system across the State of California. Cities, Counties and state voluntarily agree to provide services, resources and facilities to jurisdictions when local resources prove inadequate.
