Santa Ana Fire Department's Training Division is responsible for the initial training and continuing skill development of Firefighters, Firefighter/Paramedics and Fire Officers. All training is focused on providing and maintaining the highest quality emergency services.
Captain Mark McDermott manages the training division. He is supported by three shift Captains and their crews. The Training Division ensures compliance with the various mandated training activities. To fulfill these requirements, the training staff is dedicated to creating and implementing quality training programs that reflect the needs and changing responsibilities of the Fire Department. Instructional programs target operational efficiency with emphasis on safe operating procedures for our members in all aspects of emergency operations.
Additionally, the training division develops and administers several other programs which include the following promotional processes: Fire Captain exam, Fire Engineer exam, Firefighter entrance exam and all emergency medical certifications. The training division also conducts all Fire Captain, Fire Engineer and Probationary Firefighter academies
