Training Section

Santa Ana Fire Departmen's Training Division is responsible for the initial training and continuing skill development of Firefighters, Firefighter/Paramedics and Fire Officers. All training is focused on providing and maintaining the highest quality emergency services.

Captain Stephen Horner and Captain Mark McDermott manage the training section. They are supported by three shift Captains and their crews. These training truck crews ensure compliance with the various mandated training activities.  To fulfill these requirements, the training staff is dedicated to creating and implementing quality training programs that reflect the needs and changing responsibilities of the Fire Department. Instructional programs target operational efficiency with emphasis on safe operating procedures for our members in all aspects of emergency operations.

Additionally, the training section develops and administers several other programs. These include the various promotional processes: the Captain exam, the Fire Engineer exam, the Firefighter entrance exam and all emergency medical certifications. The training section also conducts all Probationary Firefighter academies, Engineer certification programs and the Fire Captain academy.
