About the Confident Cycling Classes

The Confident Cycling class is divided into two, 4-hour sessions, together comprising a complete program. Instructors will provide information on equipment (e.g., helmets, bike fitting, a general understanding of your bicycle and necessary gear); rules of the road (i.e., an overview of the California Vehicle Code as it pertains to bicycle riders); cycling awareness (including road conditions and road safety); safe riding techniques (e.g., how to ride in traffic, basic bicycle riding skills and emergency maneuvers).

Part 1 is classroom-based and focused on equipment, rules of the road, and where and how to ride safely.

Part 2 is outdoors and focuses on basic bicycle riding skills, emergency maneuvers, and a group ride to put it all in focus. Classes will be offered in English and Spanish, plus we will offer one class for teenagers.

Students will receive both a new helmet and set of bicycle lights for their participation.

We highly recommend that you complete both Part 1 and Part 2 to gain a wide range of skills and knowledge for bicycling on the road. However, you are allowed to register for just one or the other session type if you absolutely cannot attend both classes.
